Together with love, it adds a focus to our spiritual maturity that is outward (and not just inward and upward), for it affects how we act toward other people. Spiritual Growth Ron Halbrook “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,” which separates us from God (Rom. 3:23). Our only hope for reconciliation to God is through “the precious blood of Christ” who died as the perfect sacrifice for sin (1 Pet. 1:18-19). Until we turn to Christ, we remain “dead in trespasses and sins,” destined to face God’s wrath in eternal torment (Eph. 2:1-3). The man who thinks he can draw closer to God while living in sin deceives himself. Spiritual growth begins with a spiritual rebirth. Sinners are “born again” and purify their souls “in obeying the truth” (1 Pet. 1:22-23). This happens when they believe in Christ, repent of their sins, confess the deity of Christ, and submit to immersion in water. Since we reach the atoning blood of Christ when we are baptized, the Bible says that “baptism doth also now save us” (1 Pet. 3:21). At that moment, we become new creatures in Christ and begin to grow spiritually “as newborn babes” (1 Pet. 2:2). Spirit...

WHAT TO DO TO BE SAVED.  Benson Omole.             The most important question ever asked is “What must I do to be saved?”  (Acts 16:30, 2:37).  Everyone who believes in God must ask this question at one time in his or her life.  Truly, no other source is better able to answer this question than the word of God, for it is able to save and sanctify the souls of men (James 1:21; Jn. 17:17, 8:32).  Therefore, what does the Bible teach one must do to be saved?             The first step one must take to be saved is to hear God’s word.  “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17).  And, “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Heb. 11:6).  In the past I am afraid that we have under emphasized the importance of hearing God’s word.  But what does it mean to really hear God’s word?  Does it mean just ...

Jesus, The Humble Servant Barney Keith In the person of Jesus Christ one can see the meaning of true humility. It is unfortunate that some have a wrong concept of this admirable virtue. Humility is not an inferiority complex that causes one to shrink from action. It is not being shy or embarrassed in the presence of others. Nor is humility a reflection of weakness in one's character; rather, it is a sign of strength. It is not the lack of firmness in addressing an issue. Yet its firmness does not exhibit the arrogance and pomposity which sometimes accompany dealing with others. In Jesus we can see that humility is a lowliness of spirit that is deliberately adopted, taking a subordinate position voluntarily when an opportunity for service appears.
