We Are All Are Brethren, With One Master

We Are All Are Brethren, With One Master For The Truth’s Sake, the clergy-laity system should be abolished among all people claiming to be Christians. In Matt. 23:5-12, Christ forbad the spirit that leads to such distinctions, and forbade the use of titles, peculiar dress, and honors which attend such distinctions. “To be seen of men,” the so-called clergy wear special “garments,” seek “the chief seats,” and expect “greetings” which honor their titles of distinction. Christ said, “But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven” (Matt. 23:8-9). “All Ye Are Brethren,” Christ said! The people of God share an equality of spiritual standing before God, like children in a family. Once we obey the gospel of Christ by faith, we are all children in one family with one Father without titles, honors, and positions of elevation. “For ye are all the children of God by fa...

Reverence in Worship.

Reverence in Worship R. J. Evans "God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, And to be held in reverence by all those who are around Him" (Psa. 89:7).   One of the most vitally important lessons to be learned in the church today is that of reverence. "Reverence" means "profound respect, affection, veneration" (Webster). Worship is not an accidental, hit or miss exercise. It is a holy privilege involving preparation, concentration, consecration, and meditation.   God required reverence during Old Testament times (Ex. 3:5). Likewise, He requires fear and reverence of New Testament Christians today. "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear, For our God is a consuming fire" (Heb. 13:28-29).   How can we "serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear" in our worship services?   1. By enter...

TODAY'S TOPIC: ARE ALL CHURCHES THE BODY OF CHRIST? TODAY'S VERSE: 1Corinthians 3:10-11 "...According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ..." Often, during the course of a Bible class in the home of one who is not a Christian, I sought to kindly and firmly impress upon the mind of the unbeliever, the absolute necessity of being a steadfast and faithful member of Christ's Body. Usually, in 75% of all cases, the response will be something like: "Well, I am a Methodist, that is, a Member of the Methodist Church, and I believe that I am a Member of Christ's Body, because all churches are apart of the Body of Christ".   Or, it may be worded like this:  "You know, I believe that there is only one Body, because I am a Baptis...

Authority, Misunderstood Today?

Authority, Misunderstood Today?        I have now lived and preached long enough to fully understand the saying that, "...what goes around, comes around." It is a fact that most things are cyclical in nature (cp. Eccl. 1: 10). From the standpoint of history, the ongoing and assiduous real battle has always been Bible authority. In the full scale, the "new hermeneutic" has long ago been introduced and most of these progressive brethren have now gone the way of the Community Church, grace only, and you name it, movements. We are now witnessing the "next generation" perform their apostasy and, you guessed it, it involves Bible authority and a basic misunderstanding or, rather, denial of fundamental principles.      "The scriptures do not say, 'don't do it,' therefore, we have a liberty and may practice it if we desire!," is the long heard rationale. We are now hearing once well respected brethren say such, notwithstanding the instan...

TODAY'S TOPIC: ALL ABOUT CHRISTMAS! TODAY'S VERSE: 2John 1:9-11 "...Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine (teaching), do not receive him into your house nor greet him; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds..." As we enter the month of December, the season of the year when many of our friends, relations, and neighbours will be observing the Birthday of Christ.  It will be appropriate that we give some time to a careful study of Christmas. We will attempt to give a comprehensive picture of the truth about Christmas.  Do you know about the origin and history of Christmas?  Humans are prone to take so many things for granted!  Where did Christmas come from?  Who authorized it?  Many of us will quickly answer that it was ordained by God, and orig...

TODAY'S TOPIC: Are You Defending or Defacing The Gospel? TODAY'S VERSE: 2Timothy 1:8. "...Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the Gospel according to the power of God,..." To deface is to act intentionally to damage or destroy the surface appearance of something, often this is done in a malicious or vandalistic manner.  This may cause harm to individuals or communities affected by the defacement. Defacing the Gospel of Christ will contribute to the loss of decency and respect for the authority of God, leading to chaos and disorderliness.  "...Let all things be done decently and in order." 1Corinthians 14:40. Over the years, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has suffered untold hardship, attack and defacement of its purity, simplicity, and completeness, from the hands of its enemies.  Men have sought to destroy and set at nought "...the Gospel of Christ, for it i...

TODAY'S TOPIC: THE FAITH OF CHRIST KNOWS NOTHING CALLED CHRISTMAS!!! TODAY'S VERSE: GALATIANS 4:9-10. "...But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days and months and seasons and years..." Every 25th of December, the religious World celebrates a holiday which they called " Christmas ", presumably to celebrate the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.  This celebration is supposed to be the BIRTHDAY of our Lord Jesus Christ!!! It should be kept in mind that the Gospel accounts reveal only a few incidents in connection with the early life of Jesus Christ. The following chronology of these events should be helpful: a. Birth of Jesus: Matt. 1: 2 5, Luke 2: 1-7 b. Visit of Shepherds (Same Night): Luke 2:8-20. c. Jesus' Circumcision (Eight days old): Luke 2:21. d. Jesus' Presentation (at least 40 days old): Lev...
