THE COMMAND GO ..."(Matt. 28:18-20).

 - By Gbenga Fabunmi.

Theme : "I Know Thy Works..."(Rev. 2:2)
Introduction: "I know thy works..." is a common refrain in the letters addressed to the angels of the seven churches in Asia Minor.
The apostle John, who wrote the Book of Revelation, shows us that there's no place to hide for any individual Christian and the church as a corporate organization! (Rev. 2:2, 9, 13, 19; 3:1 & 15).

The Hebrews' writer declares in the thirteenth verse of the chapter four, "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do"!

With this great knowledge and power of God at the back of our mind, we want to discuss the topic - The Command, "Go ..." and what should be our attitude to the command.

I. The Command, "Go ..." - What Does it mean?

a. "Command" is a statement, given with authority, that an action must be performed. It means "to have authority over"(Oxford Mini Reference Dictionary).

b. A command is different from making an appeal!(Matt. 28:18-20; Mk. 16:14-16; Jn. 15:16; see 2Tim. 4:1-2; cf. 1Cor. 1:10).

c. Command is a necessity and not a piece of advice (1Cor. 9:16-17; 3:5-8, 14-15). Therefore, it's our obedience to the command "Go ...." that can guarantee us a reward at eternity!

II. The Command, "Go ..." - What Should be the Right Attitude to it?

The Church and her Preachers must realize it in good time that:

1. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the only power of God to save mankind (Rom. 1:16-18; 1Cor. 1:18ff).

2. Faith is produced, in the heart of man, by hearing the word of God (Rom. 10:17-18; see verses 11-16; cf. Heb. 11:6, see verse 4; Gen. 4:1-5).

3. Therefore, both the church and individual Christians must have compassion for the several and numerous souls, who are lost in their sins daily. This is the way to be like our compassionate Master, Jesus Christ (Jn. 3:14-17; Matt. 9:35-36; 4:23; Mk. 6:34; Lk. 9:10; Matt. 18:11; see Mk. 16:15-16).

Conclusion:

"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season,...."(2Tim. 4:1-2a).
