Calvinism: Irresistible Grace

Image
Larry Ray Hafley Pekin, Illinois I. Introduction: A. Definition of the Doctrine of Irresistible Grace. 1. "All those whom God has predestinated unto life, and those only, He is pleased, in His appointed and accepted time, effectually to call, by His Word and Spirit, out of that state of death, in which they are by nature, to grace and salvation by Jesus Christ; enlightening their minds spiritually and savingly, to understand the things of God; taking away their heart of stone, and giving them a heart of flesh; renewing their wills, by His almighty power determining them to that which is good; and effectually drawing them to Jesus Christ, yet so as they come most freely, being made willing by His grace. "This effectual call is of God's free and special grace alone, not from anything at all foreseen in man, who altogether passive therein, until, being quickened and renewed by the Holy spirit, he is thereby enabled to answer this call, and to embrace the grace of...

THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEE.

Image
THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEE. By: Benson Omole Min. A. THE CHURCH OF CHRIST. JESUS CHRIST said: “I will build MY CHURCH; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (KJV). JESUS eventually built His Church as promised:  a. It was purchased with His blood (Acts 20:28). b. Jesus Christ is Himself its foundation (I Cor. 3:11).  c. He is the Savior of the church (Eph. 5:23). d. The church is the bride of Christ (II Cor. 11:2). e. The church is the body of Christ (Eph. 1:23). f. He is the Head of the church (Col. 1:18). g. The Bible says there is only one church (or body) (Eph. 4:4).  h. Jesus Christ alone adds “those who were being saved” to the Church. (Acts 2:47). i. Jesus Christ did not authorize any man-made Church, “…Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…” (Psalm 127:1). j. The church that Jesus built was HIS church, and He sets the New Testament as the only divine guide, and reliable pattern for the...

WHEN DOES A MAN REST IN PEACE AFTER DEATH

TOPIC: WHEN DOES A MAN REST IN PEACE AFTER DEATH?  Introduction:  The slogan "Rest in Peace"  shortened for "RIP" is commonly seen on burial posters, brochures, bill boards and heard when people pray for the dead or at funerals. Unfortunately most of the people may already be "wasting in pieces"  while we think they are resting in peace. This teaching will help us/you understand the worthlessness of such slogan and understand how someone is rest in peace after death. To rest in  peace means to be comforted, to be in Abraham's bosom at death otherwise called paradise- Lk. 16:22. It is a transition from the challenges of this troublesome world into peace in the abode of the departed one. Jesus Christ painted the picture of what it really means to rest in peace. He illustrated this with the event of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16. Both men died and ended their journey in different parts of the same environment. Both were seeing each other, could comm...

THE TRUTH ABOUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.

Image
*THE TRUTH ABOUT THE BLOOD OF JESUS.* BENSON OMOLE Min. *INTRODUCTION.* Blood is the life-giving fluid of the body. Though in the OT it is regarded as the seat of life, but since shed blood signifies death, then the word is used of both death and life. (Gen 9:4-6). The Bible regards blood as the symbol and source of life. Lev. 17:14 says "…for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life. Therefore I said to the children of Israel, 'You shall not eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.' (NKJV). *BLOOD PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN THE OLD TESTAMENT.* On the first Passover in Exodus 12:1-13, the blood of a lamb was posted on the top and sides of each door frame as a sign that death had already taken place, so the Angel of Death would pass over.  Once a year on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), the high priest would enter the Holy of Holies to offer a blood sacrifice to atone for the sins of the people. The b...

And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them....

Does Acts 15 Authorize Women In Business Meeting?

Donnie V. Rader In discussions about women in business meetings, one of the main passages that is introduced is Acts 15.This chapter deals with the "conference" at Jerusalem about the matter of circumcision. This passage is cited as proof that women may attend and participate in decision-making business meetings. Let's consider the argument that is made from the text and then we'll see whether Acts 15 supports the contention. The Argument Made on Acts 15 I. The Argument: Those who think Acts 15 allows women in business meetings tell us that this chapter is an example of women being involved in making decisions for the church. They think they see that in more than one spot in this chapter. a. These brethren contend that the whole church at Antioch (including women) determined to send Paul and Bamabas to Jerusalem (vv. 2-3). Thus, women were involved in making that determination. b. We are told that more than just the apostles and elders (v. 6) wer...
