A GOOD NAME!

A Good Name (Proverbs 22:1) You got it from your father, It was all he had to give. So it’s yours to use and cherish, For as long as you may live. If you lose the watch he gave you, It can always be replaced. But a black mark on your name, son, Can never be erased. It was clean the day you took it, And a worthy name to bear. When he got it from his father, There was no dishonor there. So make sure you guard it wisely, After all is said and done. You’ll be glad the name is spotless, When you give it to your son. anon

IS BIBLE THE WORD OF GOD?

IS BIBLE THE WORD OF  GOD? Though Christians believe the Bible is the Word of God, it is obvious that the world as a whole does not pay attention to what the Bible says. So why should we pay attention to what the Bible says? WHAT IS FAITH? Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.   So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Heb. 11:1; Romans 10:17 NKJV A study of the Bible not only provides an object of faith, something to believe in, but gives us many reasons why we should believe what the Bible states. The answer to why we believe the Bible involves many facts that together provide an intelligent basis for believing the Bible to be a supernatural statement of truth. The Bible itself claims to be a supernatural book that God produced through human authors. THE BIBLE INSPIRED OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The Writers of the Bible do not claim to be men of supernatural knowledge, they freely admit that God is the source of their informat

The Kingdom of Christ.

The Kingdom of Christ. Read this: Luke 1:26-33.  Intro. 1.  OT predicted a king ruling over insurmountable kingdom:  Psa. 2:6-7; 110:1-3; 132:11; Isa. 9:6-7; Dan. 2:44; 7:13-14; Lk. 1:30-33. 2.   Many do not believe the kingdom of Christ was established during NT times or that it exists today.  They look and pray for a kingdom to come.   a.   Kingdom: “Sovereignty, royal power, dominion...a realm”; “the territory subject to the rule of a king.”   b.   Either His kingdom exists today or it does not; Either Jesus, as King, is sovereign ruler over His kingdom today, or He is not. 3.   The presence of the kingdom of Christ is real and forever changes the life of the person who enters it (Heb. 12:28).   1.  Jesus announced the approach of the kingdom.   -Matt. 4:17:  Coming kingdom was “at hand” (near, close, Matt. 6:18, 46; 2 Tim. 4:6) – Lk. 10:9.   -Matt. 12:28:  Presence of the Spirit of God = Kingdom set before them (Isa. 11:2; 42:1).   2.  Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom.   -M

ARE ALL WHO ARE BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS?

ARE ALL WHO ARE BAPTIZED CHRISTIANS?   In every example of New Testament conversion people were baptized for remission of sins.  "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38) One cannot be a Christian without being baptized but not all who have been baptized are Christians. Why would this be true?  Many that have been baptized have not been baptized as accountable people. Baptism is an act of submission that must come from the heart. "But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered." (Romans 6:17) Baptizing babies is no more Bible baptism than it would be for several strong men to baptize adults against their will. Babies have no sin and therefore do not need baptism and certainly could not be baptized as a voluntary act of obedience.  Many that have been baptized

NOAH WAS SAVED BY GRACE

Jesse Whitlock, Evant, TX Noah Was Saved by Grace Noah Was Saved by Grace Grace is defined: “favor, or mercy.” Genesis 6:8 states, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” “But Noah found favor in the eyes of Jehovah” (ASV-1901). We Are Saved by Grace Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith.” Noah Was Saved by Faith Hebrews 11:7 reads, “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house.” We Are Saved by Faith Hebrews 11:6 specifies, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” As noted earlier, “For by grace are ye saved through faith” (Eph. 2:8). Noah Was Saved by Obedience Compare Hebrews 11:7 (again) with Genesis 6:22: “Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.” We Are Saved by Obedience Jesus said in Matthew 7:21: “Not every one that saith unt

The Danger Of The Dance

The Danger Of The Dance Avon Malone Waukegan, Ill. America is tottering on the brink of moral decay. This fact becomes evident to anyone who would carefully observe the unmistakable trend of the times. One out of every four marriages in this country ends in divorce. According to the F.B.I., one million illegitimate children are born annually. Not long ago a doctor who lives near one of the largest universities in the land said that he was convinced that at least 90 per cent of the young men and women of that far-west university had had sex relations before marriage. All of this points to an obvious conclusion; our generation is speeding toward the abyss of moral debauchery.   TIME TO TAKE A STAND Our great concern is that the worldliness so prevalent today is even threatening to engulf that last citadel of virtue -the church of the living God! The time has come for elders, preachers, teachers, all Christians to cry out courageously against the sins of the day. As the clario

ARE CHRISTIANS SINNERS OR SAINTS?

ARE CHRISTIANS SINNERS OR SAINTS? For some reason, Christians like to point out the fact that they are sinners.  We hear such things as:  "I am no saint."  Or, "The church is filled with imperfect, sinful people."  They do this to encourage the sinners of the world to come to church.  They do this to express their humility.  They do this because they know they have sin in their lives. There is, however, a difference between Christians and those in the world.  Christians are saints.  They are purified.  They are set apart.  They have a holy purpose to serve in the kingdom of God.   For some reason, we have difficulty expressing the idea that we are God's "holy ones."  The Bible says:  "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness" (I Thess. 4:7).  Peter refers to us as " holy priesthood" (I Pet. 2:5) and "a holy nation" (I Pet. 2:9).  In the Revelation, Jesus is pictured riding on a white horse.  They who

BRIEF HISTORY OF CHURCH OF CHRIST

BRIEF HISTORY OF CHURCH OF CHRIST INTRODUCTION THE CHURCH OF CHRIST was established in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost in AD 33, some days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and His subsequent ascension to heaven. From this date, the church passed through trials and persecutions in the hands of the Jews as well as the Roman authorities who were the ruling power of the time. Before his death, Jesus promised to build His church (Matt. 16:18-19), the fulfillment of which came to pass on the Day of Pentecost in AD 33. Jesus told the apostles that they will be persecuted (Lk 11:49; Matt. 5:11-12). He talked about the level of sufferings that will come after His death. He predicted the destruction of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem (Luke 19:41-44, Luke 21:5-6, Matt 24:1-2). The Scriptures are full of predictions about the establishment of the church in Jerusalem and her ultimate spread to all corners of the world. The church was thus established after Jesus shed His blood to purchase he

Beatitudes Of The Housewife

Beatitudes Of The Housewife Blessed is she whose daily tasks are a labor of love; for her willing hands and happy heart translate duty into privilege, and her labor becomes a service to God. Blessed is she who opens the door to welcome both stranger and friends; for gracious hospitality is a test of brotherly love. Blessed is she who mends stockings and toys and broken hearts; for her understanding is a balm to humanity. Blessed is she who scours and scrubs; for well she knows that cleanliness is one expression of Godliness. Blessed is she whom children love; for the love of a child is more to be valued than fortune or fame. Blessed is she who sings while she works; for music lightens the heaviest load and brightens the dullest chore. Blessed is she who dusts away doubt and fear and sweeps out the cobwebs of confusions; for her faith will triumph over all adversity.   Blessed is she who serves laughter and smiles with every meal; for her buoyancy of spirit is an aid to mental and physi

A Pardon Rejected

A Pardon Rejected       During the presidency of Andrew Jackson, George Wilson robbed a federal payroll from a train and in the process killed a guard. The court convicted him and sentenced him to hang. Because of public sentiment against capital punishment, however, a movement began to secure a presidential pardon for Wilson, and eventually Jackson intervened with a pardon. Amazingly, Wilson refused it.       Since this had never happened before, the Supreme Court was asked to rule on whether someone could indeed refuse a presidential pardon. Chief Justice John Marshall handed down the court's decision: "A pardon is a parchment whose only value must be determined by the receiver of the pardon. It has no value apart from that which the receiver gives to it. George Wilson has refused to accept the pardon. We cannot conceive why he would do so, but he has. Therefore, George Wilson must die." "Pardon," declared the Supreme Court, "must not only be granted, it

THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST - WHO WE ARE?

THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST - WHO ARE WE? Winston S Chambers. We are simply a group of Christians - members of Christ's body, His church, nothing else!   Jesus said, “UPON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH;” (Matthew 16:18).  This He did and purchased the church with His own Blood (Acts 20:28). After Jesus' resurrection and ascension into heaven, Peter taught the people in Jerusalem in Acts Chapter two about the salvation offered through Christ's death, “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved;” Acts 2:47. We (those of us who have forsaken our ways, our beliefs, our practices, our sinful lifestyles, and surrendered to God through Christ Jesus, and obeyed God's form of doctrine from the heart), we are that church. Therefore, we are not a denomination nor part of a larger religious order. No way! Denominationalism is based upon division, which is clearly condemned in the Scriptures:  “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in on

HOW SHOULD YOU BE BAPTIZED?

Image
HOW SHOULD YOU BE BAPTIZED? (#20 in this series about the Restoration Movement) Long before “the prayer of salvation” and “asking Jesus into your heart” were introduced to the religious world in the 1800s, the big issue was: should a person be baptized by sprinkling or by immersion? It was such a divisive issue that several denominations in Europe would drown those who preferred adult immersion over sprinkling of children. “You like water… we’ll give lots of water.” But the question for honest students of Scripture isn’t whether religious leaders believe in immersion or sprinkling. The question is… what does the word “baptism” really mean? WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? In John 3:23 we read, "And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, BECAUSE THERE WAS MUCH WATER THERE: and they came, and were baptized." In Mark 1:9-10, we read, "Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway COMING UP OUT OF THE WATER, he saw the heavens open

WHAT MEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WOMEN

WHAT MEN NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WOMEN 1. Women fall in love through a man's words, they stay in love because of his actions. 2. They find it a turn off when a strange man uses intimate names like "Dear", "Sweetheart", "Love" on them. He might think saying so impresses her, but to her she finds it cheap, that he uses those intimate names on any random lady. 3. Before you tell her "I love you", be sure you know the meaning, depth, weight and responsibility of those words. 4. She loves to be slowly unveiled, don't push or rush her. 5. Even though her heart believes in love, she needs convincing as to why she should love. It is up to you to call her heart out from hiding. 6. Awaken love in her only if you are serious. 7. Honesty is key, tell her the truth no matter how painful or difficult it is to bear, she will love and trust you more for it. 8. Women think of sex too, but it is a side of her preserved for her special man. 9. Women love attenti
