SIN, AND ITS CONSEQUENCES.
WHAT SIN IS.
  1 John 3:4. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1 John 5:17. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
James 4:17. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
Romans 14:23. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
MAN, AND SIN.
  A.  God Created Man and Woman without Sin, Gen. 1:27; 2:25.
  B.  Adam and Eve Chose to Sin, Gen. 2:16-17; 3:1-6 (1 Tim. 2:14).
 1.  Sin entered the world through Adam (and death through sin), Rom. 5:12. This is the spiritual death of Gen. 2:17.
 2.  Death passed to all men “because all sinned”, Rom. 5:12.
C.  Sin and its Guilt is Individual, Ezek. 18:4, 20.
 1.  The consequences of individual sins may affect others and future generations, Exo. 20:5.
2.  Physical death is a consequence of Adam’s sin that passes to us all, Gen. 3:19.
D.  Human Beings are not Born with a “Sinful Nature”.
 1.  Sin is chosen, not inherited, Rom. 5:12; 3:23.
2.  God made us upright; we go away from God, Eccl. 7:29; Rom. 3:12.
a.  Children are innocent, not guilty and cursed, Matt. 18:3.
b.  Paul’s innocence could only have been infancy and childhood, before moral perception and accountability, Rom. 7:9.
 3.  What about Jesus: Did He have original sin and a sinful nature? Heb. 2:14, 17
 a.  Some have proposed the virgin birth as His exemption. If that is correct, then what about Mary’s sins? Matt. 1:23.
 b.  Jesus, like us, was not born with guilt of sin, Heb. 2:14.
 E.  Redemption from Sin is not Inherited, but Obtained by Faith, Rom. 1:16-17; 3:21-26. 
THE CHRISTIAN'S STRUGGLE AGAINST SIN.
 A.  The Struggle is Real, not because Our Nature is Corrupt, but because Christians Continue to be Tempted to Sin.
 1.  Jesus suffered, being tempted, Lk. 22:18; Heb. 2:18. 
  2.  Christians suffer, being tempted, 1 Cor. 10:12-13; 1 John. 2:15-16; Jas. 1:14. cf. 1 Pet. 4:12-13.
 3.  We are in a battle against evil, Eph. 6:11-13. We are tempted to give up.
 B.  Sin is Not Greater than Grace, but We Must Choose Grace, Tit. 2:11-12. God's grace does not remove the reality of sin/temptation.
1.  The rule of sin in the sinner: "The law of sin which is in my members", Rom. 7:21-23, 5. This is the lost sinner, not the Christian.
 a.  The work of sinful passions bears deadly fruit (sin), Gal. 5:19-21.
 b.  Sin dwells in (dominates) the lost person, Rom. 7:17-18, 20.
c.  This person is carnal, wretched and dead, Rom. 7:14, 24. (Rom. 8:1-4: A Sinner is Saved by Faith in Christ!)
2.  The rule of righteousness in the Christian: "The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus", 8:2.
a.  No condemnation in Christ, 8:1.
 b.  Grace reigns through righteousness, Rom. 5:21.
 c.  Righteousness is obtained "by faith", Rom. 1:17; 4:5.
 d.  Faith obeys Jesus (not the flesh), Rom. 6:1-2. The Christian has been set free from sin, Rom. 6:17-18. (John. 8:36)
3.  Sin does not dwell in the Christian. This does not mean we cannot sin; it means sin does not rule over us, 1 Jno. 1:8-9; 2:1.
 C.  How Do We Prevail in Our Ongoing Struggle Against Sin? 
1.  Do not be deceived about sin, Jas. 1:16. 
2.  Clean up your conduct, Jas. 4:8.
3.  Purify your heart, Jas. 4:8.
a.  Indwelling sin error implies this cannot be done.
b.  Guard your conscience by rejecting sin.
 4.  Be strong in the Lord's power, Eph. 6:10.
 5.  Be sober and watchful, 1 Pet. 5:8.
 6.  Exercise self-control, 1 Cor. 9:24-27.
7.  Pray and obey without getting distracted, Phil. 4:6-9.
THE EFFECTS, AND THE CONSEQUENCIES OF SIN:
I.  WHAT SIN DOES:
 A.  Sin is an Act of the Will, Heb. 10:26-27.
 1.  Sin is an act of the will; it is a choice, Gen. 3:6.
 2.  Therefore, we are accountable for our own sins, Ezek. 18: 20.
 3.  Sin is not inherited, an inclination or forced. Sin can be recognized and resisted, Gen. 4:6-7.
 4.  What about sins of ignorance?
  a.  There is a choice not to know the true God, Rom. 1:18-20.
 b.  Paul was a sinner when he did it “ignorantly”, 1 Tim. 1:13, 15.
 B.  Sin has a Separating Effect, Isa. 59:1-3.
 1.  Sin removes the sinner from God’s favor and fellowship, Isa. 1:15. Sin causes us to be alienated enemies, Col. 1:21.
 2.  God is holy and will not accept sin before Him, Lev. 11:44-45.
 3.  Learn the fear of God! Psa. 34:11-16
 C.  Sin is a Numbing and Hardening Agent.
1.  Deadens the conscience, 1 Tim. 4:1-2. No longer functions to cause guilt when sin is the pattern of conduct.
 2.  Past feeling (lose all sensitivity, callous) so that guilt no longer occurs and/or suppressed, Eph. 4:17-19.
 3.  Deceitfulness of sin hardens the heart, Heb. 3:13. (Refusal to obey God’s word hardens your heart, Heb. 3:6-11).
D.  Sin is a Corrupting Influence, Gen. 6:11-12; Deut. 31:29.
 1.  A little sin spreads and thoroughly corrupts, 1 Cor. 5:6.
 2.  Sinful associations corrupt us, 1 Cor. 15:33.
E.  Sin is a Deadly Event.
 1.  Death: Separation from life-source, cf. Jas. 2:26.
2.  Sin separates from God, Gen. 2:17.
3.  Death passes to all as each one sins, Rom. 5:12. (Death is the just wages of sin, Rom. 6:23; Jas. 1:15).
 4.  All have sinned, therefore, are dead in sin, Rom. 3:23, 19.
F.  Sin is an Insult against God, Heb. 10:29; Psa. 51:4.
 1.  Men of Sodom, Gen. 13:13 (“sinful against the Lord”).
2.  The sinner’s plea for mercy must be to God, Psa. 41:4.
3.  God’s grace in Christ provides remedy, Tit. 3:3-7.
  THE SOLUTION: BECOME ADDICTED TO RIGHTEOUSNESS, 1 John 2:28-29; 3:7-9.
  A.    Develop a Heart Given to Doing God’s Will, Gal 2:20.
 B.    How Sin’s Addiction can be Broken:
 1.    Do not let sin rule over you, Rom 6:6-7, 11-14. (Put it to death in your life, Col 3:5-7).
2.    Yield up yourself to obedience, not to sin, Rom 6:15-18.
3.    Be alert to the dangers of sin, Rom 13:11. (Resist temptations and use way of escape, 1 Cor 10:13).
 4.    Deliberately choose to stop sinning, Rom 13:12-13.
a.    Repent of all your unforgiven sins (2 Cor 12:21).
 5.    Put on the Lord in your life, Rom 13:14.
 a.    Make no provision for the (flesh) addicting activity.
 b.    Replace the evil with good, Rom 12:21, 2.
 c.    Self-control (1 Cor 9:27; 2 Pet 1:5-6). Mind over body
d.    Prayer, Phil 4:6-7.
6.    Trust God to work in your life by obeying Him, Phil 2:12-13.
C.    Establish an Addiction to Righteousness, Phil 4:8.
1.    Be persuaded by the love of God, Rom 8:38-39.
2.    Diligently guard your heart, Prov 4:23.
 3.    Trust the Lord with all your heart, Prov 3:5-8.
I.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO DENY YOUR SIN.
 A.  By Self-Righteously Denying Your Sin, 1 Jno. 1:8-10. (These Christians deceive themselves, live in error, are not cleansed from their sin and call God a liar).
 B.  By Changing the Definitions of Sin, Isa. 5:20.
II.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO INDULGE YOURSELF IN SIN, Rom. 1: 28-32; 8:5.
 A.  These Honor Self and Refuse to Honor God, Rom. 1:20-22.
 B.  These Set Their Minds on the Flesh and Befriend the World, Rom. 8:5; Jas. 4:1-4.
III.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO EXCUSE YOUR SIN, Rom. 1:20. (Sin is absolutely inexcusable!)
 A.  You Can Blame Others, Gen. 3:11-13 (Jas. 1:13); Won’t work.
  B.  You Can Say, “I Can’t Help Myself,” “I was born that way”, Exo. 32:21-24. 
C.  You Can Rest on Your Good Intentions, Matt. 7:21-23.
 1.  Shall we do evil that good may come?! Rom. 3:8
2. “I had to do it!” 1 Sam. 13:11-12 (No, you didn’t have to.)
 3.  Still rebellion against God, 1 Sam. 15:3, 8-9, 11, 13-15, 22-23.
 D.  Because You are Afraid, 1 Sam. 15:24 (cf. Matt. 10:28).
IV.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO HIDE YOUR SIN, Gen. 3:8 (Josh. 7:21).
A.  Trying to Hide Sin from God is Futile, Isa. 29:15; Jer. 23:24; Ezek. 8:12.
1.  Our sins are always before God, Psa. 90:8.
2.  Trying to hide sin only hurts you, Heb. 3:12-13.
3.  Far better to seek God’s help with sin, Psa. 19:12-13.
V.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO CONFESS YOUR SIN, Prov. 28:13; Lk. 15:17-19.
 A.  To God, because Your Sin is Against Him, Psa. 32:3-5 (51:3-4); 1 Jno. 1:9.
 B.  To the Person You Sinned Against, because You Wronged that Person, Jas. 5:16.
VI.  YOU CAN CHOOSE TO REPENT OF YOUR SIN, Lk. 13:3, 5.
A.  Have Godly Sorrow Over Your Sin, 2 Cor. 7:9-10.
 B.  Bear the Fruit of Repentance in Your Life, 2 Cor. 7:11; Acts 26:20.
1.   To repent necessarily implies one will stop his sin! Rev. 9:20-21
2.  The repentant repudiate their sin, Acts 19:18.
 3.  The repentant put sin to death, Rom. 6:1-4, 6, 11-12, 14.
CONCLUSION.
Whatever you do with your Sins, know that surely it will have eternal consequences concerning your eternal destination, at the end of LIFE!
