WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT: THE TITHE.                                       By: Benson Omole Min. WHAT IS TITHE? Tithe means tenth part. It is taken as a tax for the support of the Temple worship, in the Mosaic era. Therefore, all the commandments of God, relating to the payment of TITHE, can be read, in the Old Testament section, of the BIBLE. WHO MADE THE LAW OF TITHE? God in Heaven made the Law of the Old Testament, in the Bible. The Law of Tithe was part of the covenant which God made with Moses for the Children of Israel, on the Mount Sinai. (“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S. It is holy to the LORD. If a man wants at all to redeem any of his tithes, he shall add one-fifth to it. And concerning the tithe of the herd or the flock, of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD. He shall not inquire whether it is good or bad, nor shall he exchange it; and if he exchanges

A Call To New Testament Christianity.

A Call To New Testament Christianity    Jesus died for his Church, the bride of Christ, (Ephesians 5:25-33). Man throughout history has corrupted the Church that Christ died for, through denominationalism, by adding man-made laws to the scriptures, and by following Rule Book; Catechism; Church Constitutions; and the Creeds of Men, other than the Holy Bible. It is possible today, to be obedient to the will of Christ. Christians can resolve to restore the Church to being the church of the New Testament, (Acts 2:41-47). Some Things You Should Know: You should know that in Bible times, the Church is called: The temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16) The bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:22-32) The body of Christ (Colossians 1:18,24; Ephesians 1:22-23) The kingdom of God's son (Colossians 1:13) The house of God (1 Timothy 3:15) The church of God (1 Corinthians 1:2) The church of the first-born (Hebrews 12:23) The church of the Lord (Acts 20:28) The churches of Christ (Romans 16:16)

ABORTION THE REAL ISSUE.

ABORTION THE REAL ISSUE Abortion proponents attempt to hide the truth behind the slogan of "pro-choice." But the issue is not one of choice; the question is: is abortion murder?

ENDURING VALUE.

Enduring Value “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:20-21).

WHEN MEN SLEPT...

Image
While Men Slept While men slept – that’s the explanation Jesus gave for the presence of weeds in the wheat in Matthew 13:25. “While men slept, the enemy came and sowed weeds in the wheat.” Abortion became an acceptable means of population control, homosexuality became an acceptable lifestyle, sex outside of marriage became common behavior, teenage pregnancy reached epidemic proportions, our society grew addicted to pornography and gambling, and alcoholism became our Number One health problem

WRONG IS ALWAYS WRONG.

Image
“WRONG IS ALWAYS WRONG”    In a period of loose and sagging morals, Satan provides many rationalizations for improper behavior. Those who will live faithful Christian lives must not be "ignorant" of his "devices" (2 Cor. 2:11). Wrong is always wrong, despite our efforts to excuse our actions.    Wrong Is Wrong, Even If You Don't Get Caught. We need to remember that "the eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good" (Prov. 15:13)

MIRACLE DONE AWAY

WHIT SASSER' S Exhortations & Stuff Miracle Done Away The Bible says, "When that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away." (I Corinthians 13:10). Miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit were used by God in the first century to confirm the spoken gospel of salvation (Hebrews 2:34).

"I HAD AN ABORTION"

Image
"I Had An Abortion" Jennifer Baumgardner’s life will never be the same. Since her days in college she has been a pro-abortion activist. She relishes the opportunity to protest against pro-life advocates. She hates religion, Christianity in particular, and loves to mock and ridicule the “mental midgets” that follow such foolishness. Yet, these principles will not make her stand out in the annals of time. No, her fame comes from a T-shirt. In recent years, pro-life organizations have been trying to warn women about the mental, emotional and even physical dangers of abortion – dangers pro-abortionists have tried to play down and even deny. A few months ago, Jennifer Baumgardner became fed up with the parade of women who regretted having an abortion. So she designed a T-shirt which proudly proclaims, “I had an abortion.” The shirt has ignited a moral firestorm. The pro-life camp views the shirt as an attempt to mock those women hurting from their abortions. Some pro-abortionis

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO OBEY THE GOSPEL FROM THE HEART.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO OBEY THE GOSPEL FROM THE HEART THE GOSPEL is the divine message of Christ crucified, Christ as the sinner's sinbearer and Savior. 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 1:18-24; 15:1-4; Hebrews 9:26-28. The GOSPEL came to us from the Father through Christ and the apostles, by the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 1:1,2; 2:1-4; John 14:25,26; 2 Peter 3:2; Acts 2:41,42. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN to those who obey from the heart the apostle's teaching. Acts 2:37-39; 5:32; Romans 1:5,16; 5:1-5; 6:16-18, 22,23; 16:25,26; 1 Peter 1:22-25. THIS OBEDIENCE OF FAITH must include: 1. BELIEF in God and Jesus as God's Son and our Savior. John 14:1; 17:3. 2. FAITH includes more than believing in their existance, the demons also believe this. James 2:19; John 12:42-44. 3. TRUST in God and His promises. Hebrews 11:1-6, 9-11, 17-19; 2 Peter 1:3,4. 4. FAITHFUL OBEDIENCE with appropriate deeds and motivation. Faith without proper deeds and motivation is dead. Faith that g

WHAT IS AND WHAT IS NOT THE PERFECT WILL OF GOD

Menu Biblical Proof Speaking where the bible speaks, and silent where the bible is silent. What Is and Is Not The Perfect Will of God In the closing part of the Sermon on the Mount Jesus shows the importance of obedience. He declares that the one who enters the kingdom of heaven will be “he who does the will of My Father in heaven” (Matt. 7:21). Surely obedience is learned in this section, but we can also learn what isn’t obedience in these verses. There are many individuals in our society today who believe they are accepted by God, but the things to which they appeal to prove this acceptability are the things that Jesus shows are no proof at all. Praying In verse 21 Jesus speaks of some individuals who were calling upon him as Lord, but he says to them, “I never knew you” (Matt. 7:23). I have heard individuals at funerals say that if the deceased just had a moment to call upon Jesus as Lord that the person would have been saved, but Jesus clearly shows here that there is more

JUDGEMENT AT THE SECOND COMING.

Image
Judgment at the Second Coming Man is constantly making preparations in life—financially, leisurely, socially and, last but not least, making final arrangements for death. Unfortunately, many are failing to prepare for the Judgment Day; many are failing to prepare to live eternally after death! The word “judgment” has a few meanings worthy of consideration. In the Old Testament it means the act of deciding a case, to make a judgment/punishment, to visit, to be deposited. In the New Testament it means to separate or select, and also illustrates the judgment seat of Christ where man is acquitted and declared acceptable or punished and deemed unacceptable. Are we preparing for Judgment? Our faithful Father in heaven “judgeth no man but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” (John 5:22). When the Father sent Jesus the first time it was to save the world not to judge it. However, it is clear that when He returns with His mighty angels in flaming fire it will be for that very purpose (Jo

THE FORGOTTEN COMMANDMENT.

Image
The Forgotten Commandment Mark Gunderson "Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person" (1 Cor. 5:13). How many congregations of the Lord's body practice this today? What we are talking about has been termed "church discipline," "withdrawing of fellowship," and "withdrawing from the disorderly." All of these are familiar phrases to us and are discussed at times, but rarely practiced. Jesus once made the statement, "these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone" (Matt. 23:23). Some of the best material I have read on this subject is a tract, "Withdrawing From The Disorderly" by James Pilgrim, copyright 1977. I would encourage anyone to secure one of these and read and consider what it says. He deals with the subject of proper discipline toward those brethren who will not repent of sin in their lives. He makes it clear that this is not an option left up to each congregation to decide. God h

JESUS IS GREATER.

Image
JESUS IS GREATER Mankind has accomplished some amazing things – constructing the pyramids in ancient Egypt, inventing the telephone, walking on the moon, and DNA analysis are just a few of man’s notable achievements. Often these successes are labeled "great." There is One, though, who stands head and shoulders above everybody and everything the human race has known. Name any person, place, or thing, and Jesus the Messiah is greater. The Bible says so. Look at some ways that Jesus is greater. Jesus is greater than the temple. The Jews considered the temple as the holiest place of the holiest city (Jerusalem) in the holiest land (Canaan). Yet, Jesus said this about Himself, "But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple" (Matthew. 12:6). Jesus is greater than Jonah, the prophet of God whose preaching resulted in the whole city of Nineveh turning to Jehovah. "The men of Nineveh. . . repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold a gr

HOW DEVIL WORKS.

Image
How the Devil Works Peter wrote, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). As long as we are in this earthly body we will have Satan as our adversary. His manner is subtle, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Cor. 11:3). Not only is he subtle, he is full of tricks: “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11). We also read in Ephesians 6:16 that he is constantly throwing fiery darts our way trying to get us to stumble. But how does the Devil work? What does he do? Note the following: The Devil tries to keep every soul out of the church. The Devil does not want anyone to be saved, and he knows that people are saved who have been added to the church through obedience. So what does he do? He does anything he

GOD WANTS THE CHURCH TO GROW.

Image
GOD WANTS THE CHURCH TO GROW A consideration of such passages as Acts 2:41, 46-47; 4:4; 5:14; 6:1; 7:5 and 16:5 should be abundantly sufficient to prove that God wants the church to grow. But He has put the responsibility of doing His work and obeying His will in our hands. If this church is to grow, WE must also will it to be so. There are at least three prerequisites to church growth in this congregation. (1) We must WANT to grow. (2) We must be willing to TAKE ACTION that will result in growth. And (3) we must include growth in our goals. Too often we reach no goals because we have no goals. We also need to be aware of the fact that there are some things that seriously hinder church growth. First, some may be AFRAID to grow. The Jewish leaders were afraid to accept Jesus. Afraid of losing their position of power. Afraid of what the Romans would think or do. All my life I’ve heard people state how they preferred to worship with a small congregation. They perhaps fear losing their

ADORN THE DOCTRINE.

"...that they may adorn the doctrine..." (Titus 2:10) ADORN THE DOCTRINE Webster defines adorn as follows: (1) To decorate; (2) to make beautiful; (3) to embellish; (4) to display the excellence of something. A number of synonyms are listed — decorate, embellish, ornament, garnish, beautify, grace, exalt, and honor. When Paul wrote Titus to exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, he said for them to seek to please, not to back talk but to show good fidelity "that they may adorn (beautify, embellish, exalt) the doctrine of the Lord." Sadly, many are saying that doctrine is unimportant. Some have said that doctrine divides, but love unites. True Biblical doctrine is the only thing that can bring the unity God approves. Not only is doctrine important, but it is so important that the Christian is called upon to "adorn" it in his life. BUT HOW? 1. BY BELIEVING IT. Like Paul we need to say, "We also believe, therefore also we speak," (II

THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT BAPTISM.

Are We Teaching the Whole Truth About Baptism? Gary Henry Baptism is an important subject. Popular misconcep-tions about the who, what, and why of baptism occupy a great deal of our attention as we discuss the Bible with our friends and neighbors. Very often it is necessary to emphasize the scriptural teaching that baptism is for the remission of sins (Ac. 2:38; 22:16; 1 Pt. 3:21). We frequently find ourselves stressing the importance of the fact that for baptism to be scriptural, it must honor the purpose of that act as taught in the Scriptures. But what is the purpose of baptism in the Scriptures? What must be understood by the candidate in order for baptism to be what God intended it to be? The baptism that culminates one's initial obedience to the gospel and completes what must be done to be "in Christ" (Rom. 6:3,4; Gal. 3:27; Col. 2:12) is an act that looks forward as well as backward. In that it is for the remission of past sins, it certainly does look backward;

DO YOU FEAR GOD?

DO YOU FEAR THE LORD? by B. J. Clarke I am not asking if you are terrified of God. There is a tremendous misunderstanding in the minds of most people concerning what is truly involved in fearing Jehovah. The Bible speaks of two types of fear. First, there is the fear forbidden (Gen. 15:1; Ex. 14:13; Mt. 10:28; Lk. 12:32). In all of these passages and hundreds more, individuals are instructed to refrain from fearing certain men or afflictions brought on by men. These are comforting assurances of God's protective watchcare over his faithful followers. Second, there is the fear commanded. "Fear God. and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (Eccl. 12:13). This verse does not demand that we be filled with a dread and fright of God. It rather speaks of fear in the sense of deep-seated reverence and respect for the authority of God as the rightful ruler of the Universe. It was this kind of godly fear that moved Noah to prepare an ark for the saving of hi

EVANGELIST OR PREACHER?

EVANGELIST OR PREACHER (Who am I?) by Shan Jackson In recent times many of our brotherhood writers have tried to make an argumentable difference between "evangelist" and "preacher." To the best of my ability to understand their claim is that an evangelist is one that is sent and a preacher is one that stays. But I have a problem trying to differentiate between the two. W.E. Vine says that an evangelist is "a messenger of good" but that sounds a lot like a preacher to me. He also says that a preacher is "a herald of the Gospel" but that sounds a lot like an evangelist. They evangelize the same group (the lost), and they preach the same truth (the New Testament), so it sounds to me like they are one in the same. An evangelist who is not preaching is not an evangelist and a preacher who is not evangelizing is not a preacher. It seems like my high school geometry teacher mentioned something about that (if A=B and B=C then A=C). Regardless of the n

GAMBLING.

GAMBLING Waymon Summers Gambling is like a dirty filthy hand weaving a slimy corrupt web which leaves a stain on a country that has far too many problems already. This greed machine seems to invade political parties, religious groups, schools, businesses and homes. Persons who have been involved have started drinking and then using drugs. Result – loss of job, spouse, family and self-respect. Solomon wrote, “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked” (Proverbs 11:11). We need to pray for citizens to awake to the emptiness of the promises of high powered public relations campaigns and to the nonstop lobbying that is staged by the gambling interest. Friends, be not deceived, the gambling interest is patient. Their thinking is “each time it is proposed, it softens the thinking and opposition,” and that eventually they will have their way. Let us never become involved individually, or, by helping it, to become legalized. What Is

IMPORTANCE OF NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLY.

Image
IMPORTANCE OF NOT FORSAKING THE ASSEMBLY By James S. McDonald, Jr. Why did we come together to worship Sunday? Was it because we had not seen each other since last Wednesday night or maybe even the previous Sunday? Was it because we were anxious to talk together about the winning ball game? Were we hoping for some comments on the new suit or outfit? Did we look forward to our weekly “after church” eating out together? Or was it the fellowship dinner after the worship services that was our main focus for coming? How often have we heard someone say that s/he was disappointed with the service because s/he did not get much out of it. Or brother so and so’s prayer was too long. Or the babies were too noisy. Or the preacher preached too long. Or “they” did not sing any of the old favorite songs. All of these expectations and disappointments are the result of a misdirected concept of just actually what worship is and what we should expect from our worship to God. To begin, true worship is t
