THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN TO THOSE WHO
OBEY THE GOSPEL FROM THE HEART
THE GOSPEL is the divine message of Christ crucified, Christ as the sinner's sinbearer and Savior. 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Corinthians 1:18-24; 15:1-4; Hebrews 9:26-28. The GOSPEL came to us from the Father through Christ and the apostles, by the Holy Spirit. Hebrews 1:1,2; 2:1-4; John 14:25,26; 2 Peter 3:2; Acts 2:41,42.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GIVEN to those who obey from the heart the apostle's teaching. Acts 2:37-39; 5:32; Romans 1:5,16; 5:1-5; 6:16-18, 22,23; 16:25,26; 1 Peter 1:22-25.
THIS OBEDIENCE OF FAITH must include:
1. BELIEF in God and Jesus as God's Son and our Savior. John 14:1; 17:3.
2. FAITH includes more than believing in their existance, the demons also believe this. James 2:19; John 12:42-44.
3. TRUST in God and His promises. Hebrews 11:1-6, 9-11, 17-19; 2 Peter 1:3,4.
4. FAITHFUL OBEDIENCE with appropriate deeds and motivation. Faith without proper deeds and motivation is dead. Faith that gives access to God's grace must be active and motivated by love. Galatians 5:6; 1 Corintians 13:2; James 2:17-26; Romans 6:17; 9:30-33.
5. LOVING and OBEDIENT FAITH gives access to our Savior and His marvelous grace. And this is not by our merit or works. Ephesians 2:4-8,13-18; 3:11,12; Romans 6:23.
6. WHEN WE OBEY HIS MESSAGE from the heart, we receive the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. "... he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, which he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs in hope of eternal life." Titus 3:5-7
